My name is Susan Samra, and I have been a Governor at Stretton for 10 years. I was the Deputy Head for 8 years and am currently the Head of School.

I came to Coventry from London 10 years ago and am so passionate about working in a community like Willenhall where we can make a difference to children’s lives, help them to achieve their full potential and have high aspirations. I have loved being a part of the journey from ‘Special Measures to Outstanding’ and am so proud to continue to drive the school forward on this journey.

My name is Sarah Bates and I have been a Governor at the school for 5 years, ever since starting as headteacher in April 2012. I am immensely proud of the amazing team we have created at Stretton and our achievement: moving the school from special measures to outstanding in only 6 terms. I am now an Executive Headteacher with the Multi Academy Trust supporting Trust schools across Coventry and Warwickshire. Although my role has changed, I am still passionate about making a difference to the lives of our children at Stretton. Both as a Governor and as an Executive Head, I will be ensuring that the standards at the school remain high and that the outcomes for children continue to be outstanding.

My name is Ed Trelinski. I am a teacher of Politics at Rugby School and have been a Housemaster of Cotton, a boys’ boarding house, since 2014. I am passionate about all sport, especially rugby and cricket. In my spare time, I can also be regularly found scaling mountains in the Lake District, Snowdonia and the Scottish Highlands. I have been a governor at Stretton since July 2013.

Hi my name is Sarah Goodwin. I have been a governor at Stretton for 17 years, firstly as a parent governor and now as a staff governor. My role here at the school is as Learning Mentor and Deputy Safeguarding lead. I have two sons, age 16 and 22, both of whom attended Stretton. My husband of 24 years is a Network Engineer in the telecoms industry.

I have been through many changes (and ups and downs!) at my time here and to be part of an outstanding school Governing body and also part of the staff team has been a fantastic and rewarding experience.

My name is Sue Belden, and I have been a Governor at Stretton for 4 years. My background is in education. I was a teacher and deputy head in another Church Of England Primary School in Coventry, for many years, before I retired. During my time as a teacher, I taught the entire age range, from Early Years to Y6.

I am thoroughly enjoying being a governor at Stretton C of E Academy. It has been an exciting time of change and improvement. I hope that in a small way, I have been able to help this happen, and I look forward to future developments and successes in the school.

Now I am retired, I have time and experience to bring to Stretton. There’s also time for my hobbies of reading and travel, as well as enjoying being a granny!

My name is Rev Pam Howell and I am a Foundation Governor at the school, being the Vicar of St John the Divine Church of England Church in Willenhall Coventry. I was previously a solicitor and was ordained in 2012. I worked with our previous Vicar here for a year from 2011 to 2012 on a placement and loved being here. I was delighted to be offered this role and love being a governor of Stretton Academy. I really enjoy coming into school regularly for collective worship, and helping with the 'Divine (lunchtime) Club'. We are very glad to welcome the school every other week for our mid-week Holy Communion service.

I am married to my husband who is an engineer, and have two grown up children, my son, who is on a late apprenticeship in London working in construction and plumbing, and my daughter, who is now in her third year at university. They both attended a Church of England Primary School in their younger formative years, which stood them in good stead for the future.

I hope that I bring some of the skills I have learnt in my previous working life and my current role to the board, to help us keep on promoting all the good things going on here and ensure the school continues to deliver excellent teaching for pupils and their families.

My name is Laura Wood and I have recently become a parent governor at Stretton. I have two girls who attend the school in Years 3 and 4. I also work for Eureka Childcare in the after school club at Stretton.

My name is Paula Whitfield. I am a chartered accountant who works for a large pension scheme associated with a telecoms business based in Warwick. I became a governor at Stretton in March 2017. I have 2 teenage boys at secondary school in Rugby where I have been a parent governor since March 2016. I am also Chair of Governors at the infants school that they attended, having been a governor for over 10 years and Chair since November 2015. In my spare time (not that I have much!) I enjoy watching sport (tennis, cricket, rugby, football, hockey), keeping fit and travelling the world.

I felt privileged to be recently elected to the Governing Body as a Parent Governor, joining in Autumn 2016.

I have two children: Naomi currently in Reception and who will go up to Year 1 in September 2017, and Vivian who is now 9 months old.

In my professional life I am a currently a full time student in Coventry University, studying IT and will graduate in 2018.

Education has always been important to me, learning is one of my hobbies and I think it’s important the school provides a safe and secure platform for young people to maximise and achieve their educational and career potential. I believe that the first years of a child's education are crucial to their later academic achievements and - just as importantly - to the development of social and other life skills.

I am pragmatic and straightforward and like to see results and I am a good team player. I have a lot to learn about the education system and how Stretton works but I am keen to learn and assist the school in whatever ways that I can. I enjoy the challenge of the role and working with a number of very dedicated individuals at the school.

Brian was born in Wrexham North Wales, lives in Nuneaton and is married to Linda. He worked for Courtaulds Ltd. in Coventry, Manchester, Brussels, the USA, Bradford, Grimsby and Derby and was a chief executive of their fibres division for 17 years.
Prior to joining Stretton he has been chair of governors of All Saints, Nuneaton, Stockingford Junior Nuneaton, Hartshill Senior, Hartshill, and was a member of the Interim Executive Board at Alderman Smith schools; he is currently chair at St Michael's Bedworth and Chilvers Coton Nuneaton.
He follows all sport, is a keen birdwatcher, reader and gardener.

Ofsted Comment :  The very strong leadership of the headteacher has successfully transformed this academy. She has driven improvements in the quality of teaching and raised pupils’ achievement. Other leaders and governors contribute strongly to achieving these priorities. The governing body is highly effective in supporting and challenging leaders. Governors make an outstanding contribution to the success of the academy.
